10 Tips For Safety In Our National Parks

Upon planning our trips in class this article caught my eye of tips for safety in our national parks. My group chose to go to a few national parks on our trip around Alaska, so these tips would come in handy if you were to go. When a person is trying to get the perfect picture it can be easy to forget about your surrounding and misplace your foot or forget where you are. Depending on the terrain, weather, and wildlife a small mess up could cost you your life.

A few things that are really important from this article are to remember to look at a map of the area before you go and try to stay on tails. Also if you are unprepared for the kind of weather of the state you could get caught in some nasty weather. With this always dress the part and bring and emergency kit tailored to the area. One last major thing is to bring a buddy or tell one where you are going and for how long. This is so if you are not back by a few hours after you said they can begin to try to locate you to make sure you are safe. The article also brought up to respect the wildlife which is another good thing to remember before you head out to the national parks.

Why Using Scale is Important

This article provided good input on a topic that is not really thought of much when starting photography. Personally, for someone who is still learning about photography learning about scale is interesting. I always focus on getting a clear photo with good colors and content. I usually do not worry if the image looks a certain way or if the viewer will think the focal point is a particular size.

It is interesting to see this writers discovery about scale and how to implement it into your own photography. He gives an example of a waterfall alone then with a person in front of it. It is completely crazy how the viewer can not see how massive the waterfall is until you have something to measure it with. That is what makes nature photography challenging and rewarding. It is way more complex than one may initially intend but when you look back at what you accomplish you will be blown away that you could make such a beautiful photo.

How long does it take to consider scale when learning about nature photography?
